Man Stabbed to Death in Crete Over Romantic Dispute

Police in the town of Heraklion arrested a 37-year-old man after he fatally stabbed a 40-year-old in the Kamínia area, officials said. Authorities believe a romantic rivalry motivated the attack, which occurred in a makeshift shelter near the seafront.

The suspect, also a drug user, allegedly assaulted the victim with fists before stabbing him. Rather than seek medical help, he and two companions left the victim to bleed. Investigators said the 40-year-old might have survived if someone had called emergency services.

Police reported that another person in the shelter, a mutual friend, was connected to the dispute. The conflict involved the suspect’s former fiancée, who is now in a relationship with the victim, making her central to the jealousy motive.

The 40 year old victim

All individuals present during the incident were brought to Heraklion Security for questioning. The 37-year-old confessed fully to intentional homicide, police confirmed.

The victim had recently lived in the makeshift shelter, part of an abandoned complex often occupied by homeless people and drug users. Officers found his body on what resembled a couch, showing injuries primarily to the neck. Forensic experts will examine the body further to determine all contributing wounds, with two cuts identified as fatal.

Police believe the crime occurred during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, following an argument. The body was discovered the next day by volunteers delivering essential supplies to the victim. Investigators documented extensive blood traces at the scene.

Heraklion security and forensic officers collected evidence from the shelter as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities charged the 37-year-old with premeditated homicide.
