Navid Akram, accused of the December anti-Semitic attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, appeared for the first time in an Australian court today via video link. The hearing lasted approximately five minutes, reported public broadcaster ABC.

Authorities allege that Navid Akram and his father, Sajid Akram—who was shot dead by police during the incident—fired on a crowd for ten minutes on Sunday, 14 December, during a Hanukkah celebration. The attack killed 15 people.
Navid Akram faces charges including terrorism and 15 counts of murder with aggravating circumstances. Officials say he subscribes to the ideology of the Islamic State (IS).
