Israeli National Found Dead in Central Athens Hotel Room

Greek authorities launched an investigation on Sunday, 15 February, after they found a 53-year-old Israeli national dead inside a hotel room in central Athens.

Police said the woman, who reportedly worked as a film producer, had been staying on the fifth floor of a hotel on Lekka Street since 4 February. Her brother found her body after he began searching for her when she stopped responding and gave no signs of life.

Initial reports said the woman had bruising on her neck and lower limbs. Investigators also found a large quantity of pills inside the room.

Authorities initially assessed the case as a possible suicide, but police treated the scene as an active investigation while they worked to establish the exact circumstances.

Police officers and a forensic pathologist attended the hotel to examine the scene. Investigators ordered a full autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.

Officers also reviewed security camera footage and took statements from hotel staff as part of the ongoing inquiry.
