Greek Observatory for COVID-19 government restrictive measures established in Thessaloniki

COVID-19 observatory Greece sees jump in ICU patients with covid-19

The first Greek independent Observatory of restrictive measures that governments of countries around the world implemented from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, GovRM-COVID19 (Government Restrictive Measures – COVID19), has been created in the Centre for Research on Democracy and Law Research (CEDLAW) of the Department of International and European Studies of the University
of Macedonia.

The Observatory collects data and presents analyses on government measures
from January 2020 onward with the purpose of containing the COVID-19.

The Observatory began in November 2020 with Dr. Alexandros Kyriakidis (Head of
Operations & Research at CEDLAW) as Principal Investigator and, to date, 26
researchers from Greece, Italy and the United States of America have participated in
the research team.

In the Observatory, not only are precise sources used for each measure of each day, but these sources almost exclusively consist of official legislation of the individual country or federal entity (e.g. States), resulting in accurate knowledge of each measure implemented each day and direct access to each legislative source through a hyperlink.

Access to the Observatory's data and research is fully open and free, while
the language used is English, with the aim of wider dissemination and understanding
of research.

CEDLAW is an independent Laboratory of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia, which was established on 11 May 2020 and serves educational/research needs on the following topics, at national and international level from a theoretical or applied perspective: democratic theory and democracy as a political system, political thought and philosophy, public and private law, governance, citizens' rights, and EU institutions and policies (excluding security, defence, foreign policy and international relations).

The first Director elected for a three-year term and currently serving is Associate Professor Ioannis Papadopoulos.
