Greece Honors Baldock with Historic Win Over England

London, England – In a poignant tribute to their fallen teammate, the Greek national team secured a historic 2-1 victory over England at Wembley Stadium. The win comes just one day after the tragic passing of Greek defender George Baldock.

The Greek players, visibly emotional throughout the match, dedicated their performance to Baldock. Their determination and passion were evident from the start, as they produced one of Greece's finest performances in recent years.

Despite facing intense pressure from the home crowd, the Greeks maintained their composure and gradually gained control of the game. Their efforts were rewarded in the second half when Vangelis Pavlidis scored the opening goal.

Pavlidis, who also netted the late winner, spoke after full-time to explain that the squad had wanted to put in a big performance for their former teammate and to emphasize the importance of the occasion.

“It was a really special game for us because of George. We gave everything for him and his family,” Pavlidis told ITV.

“It’s a great win but most important is the emotions; we are people and its a special night because of him first of all.

“From yesterday when we knew, everybody had a really difficult moment. George was part of the team, a special guy and had a lot of time with everyone. We said we have to play for him and it doesn’t matter the score today, we just gave everything for him.”

Although England managed to equalize late in the match, the Greeks were not to be denied. In a dramatic finish, Pavlidis scored again in the 94th minute to secure the victory.

Greece’s victory was the first time they had ever beaten their opponents on the night in a match, as well as the first time they had scored at Wembley. The win leaves them top of the Nations League group, three points clear of England.
