The entertainment world is mourning the death of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, who was found deceased at his Santa Fe, New Mexico home alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog.
The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain under investigation.
Tom Hanks joined the chorus of tributes, posting a photo of Hackman on Instagram with the caption, "There was never a ‘Gene Hackman type.’ There was only Gene Hackman."
Authorities are treating the deaths as "suspicious." The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office reported that the bodies were discovered in separate rooms. A distressed 911 call from a worker who found the couple revealed that neither was responsive.
While initial investigations found no signs of foul play or external injuries, the cause of death is still undetermined. Autopsies have been conducted, and toxicology and carbon monoxide tests have been ordered. The Santa Fe Fire Department and New Mexico Gas Co. have ruled out carbon monoxide leaks or gas pipe issues.
The investigation into the deaths of Gene Hackman, 95, and Betsy Arakawa, 65, continues as authorities await further test results.
