Greek Air Traffic Controllers to Join Nationwide Strike on April 9

athens 3

Greek air traffic controllers will participate in a 24-hour nationwide strike on April 9, following a call from the public-sector employees’ federation ADEDY.

In an official announcement, the Greek Air Traffic Controllers Association confirmed that only specific flights—including medical, search and rescue, humanitarian aid, military, and emergency services—will be permitted during the strike.

Greek courts have previously ruled against air traffic controllers’ participation in general strikes, sometimes declaring them illegal. However, the union remains firm in supporting the broader protest.

ADEDY has called for a work stoppage to demand the reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries and substantial wage increases. On the same day, the private-sector trade union federation GSEE announced a nationwide strike focusing on key issues such as inflation, the housing crisis, and wage negotiations.

A similar strike in late February grounded all flights for an entire day, highlighting the significant impact of air traffic controllers joining nationwide labor actions.
