Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias visited the manufacturing facilities of drone company Matternet in California, where he received a detailed tour and demonstration of the firm’s unmanned aerial systems.
In a post on social media platform X, Dendias said he was guided by Matternet CEO Andreas Raftopoulos and observed “a demonstration of the multiple capabilities and applications of unmanned aerial systems.”
The visit followed Dendias’s trip to Stanford University in San Francisco, which he described as “one of the world’s leading academic institutions in research, technology and innovation, particularly in Computer Science, Systems Engineering and Data Applications.”
During his time at Stanford, Dendias met with prominent Greek academics:
— Christos Kozyrakis, Director of the Stanford Platform Lab
— Nikolaos Bambos, Director of the Computer Systems Performance Engineering Lab
— Vassilis Syrgkanis, Associate Professor of Management Science and Engineering
The minister said the meetings included “fruitful discussions on the Greek defence innovation ecosystem” within the framework of Greece’s “2030 Agenda,” as well as “the future use of artificial intelligence in addressing security challenges.”
Dendias also visited Stanford’s Hoover Institution, where he exchanged views on international and regional issues. In another post on X, he noted discussions on “security challenges in the European Union and the Eastern Mediterranean, and the role of Greece and the United States as pillars of stability in the region.”
