Hundreds Of Jellyfish Wash Ashore On Evia Beach

Hundreds of jellyfish washed ashore on the Limenari Politikon beach in Evia this week, signalling an unusually early appearance of the phenomenon typically seen during summer months.

Photographs captured by local media showed vast numbers of jellyfish washed up on rocky sections of the shore, creating both an impressive and concerning spectacle.

The event closely resembled occurrences in summer 2025, when large aggregations of jellyfish appeared across the Euboean Gulf, causing many beachgoers to avoid swimming and negatively impacting local tourism and businesses.

Experts suggest that rising sea temperatures and a decline in natural jellyfish predators may be driving the population increase. Authorities emphasise the importance of systematic monitoring and timely warnings to swimmers.

Beachgoers are advised to exercise caution in the water and follow official safety instructions. Meanwhile, local authorities are considering cleanup operations and scientific studies to better understand and manage the phenomenon in future seasons.
