Global oil prices dropped after comments from U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that the ongoing war in the Middle East could end soon, easing concerns about potential supply disruptions.

According to Reuters, the market reaction came as investors interpreted Trump’s remarks as a possible signal that diplomatic efforts may soon de-escalate the conflict, which has pushed energy prices higher in recent weeks.
Possible Easing of Russian Oil Sanctions
The report also said Washington is considering easing sanctions on Russian oil exports as a way to stabilize global energy markets and prevent prices from surging further.
Sources cited by Reuters indicated that Trump may have discussed the issue with Vladimir Putin during a recent conversation.
However, such a move could spark controversy, as relaxing restrictions on Russian oil exports could weaken Western efforts to reduce Moscow’s revenues used to finance its war against Ukraine.
Measures Under Consideration
In addition to potential sanctions relief, several other measures are reportedly being examined by U.S. officials and partners in the Group of Seven (G7):
- Releasing oil from strategic reserves held by G7 nations
- Limiting certain U.S. oil exports
- Intervening in oil futures markets
- Temporarily suspending some federal fuel taxes
These options are being studied as policymakers attempt to contain the economic impact of surging energy prices.
Pressure on Gulf Producers
At the same time, Washington is reportedly urging major oil producers in the Persian Gulf to increase production and expand supply to global markets.
Energy analysts say that additional output from Gulf producers could help stabilize prices if tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt shipping routes and energy infrastructure.
Oil markets have remained highly volatile in recent weeks, with traders closely watching geopolitical developments and diplomatic signals that could influence supply flows and global energy stability.
