On April 15, 1995, the Superfast I embarked on its maiden voyage from Patras, Greece, to Ancona, Italy, marking a turning point for the Greek ferry industry. Founded by Pericles Panagopoulos, Superfast Ferries introduced innovative ships that later became the Spirit of Tasmania vessels, now sailing the Bass Strait.
