Sydney Bishop Recovering After Stabbing, Offers Forgiveness

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, the Assyrian bishop stabbed during a church service, is recovering well and has forgiven his attacker, according to an audio message posted on social media. This was his first public statement since the incident.

The stabbing, which authorities believe is a religiously-motivated terrorist act, shocked Sydney. It comes just days after another knife attack at a shopping centre tragically claimed six lives.

"I am doing well and recovering quickly," Bishop Emmanuel reassured his congregation. "There's no need to worry." He went on to offer forgiveness to his attacker and anyone who may have been involved.

The bishop, known for his online presence and critical views on certain topics, sustained injuries during the attack. A male teenager has been arrested.

In his message, Bishop Emmanuel urged his followers to stay calm and respect the law. The incident sparked a brief riot outside the church, where some demanded the suspect be handed over.

Meanwhile, authorities announced the reopening of the Bondi Junction mall on Thursday to allow people to pay their respects to the victims of the earlier attack. Businesses are expected to resume operations on Friday.

"It's been a whirlwind of emotions," said Paula Masselos, the local mayor. "People are grieving, and it will take time to heal." A candlelight vigil is planned for Sunday as tributes continue to pour in for the victims.
