Perth, Western Australia - A 16-year-old boy has been fatally shot by police in the Perth suburb of Willetton, following a stabbing incident.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded on Monday afternoon when the suspect stabbed an unknown man in the back with a kitchen knife. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in serious but stable condition.

Multiple emergency calls were received regarding a "male with a knife" in the area. Upon arrival, police encountered the suspect, who was armed with a long kitchen knife.

Despite attempts to subdue the suspect with Tasers, he reportedly continued to advance. In response, the third officer fired a single gunshot, striking the 16-year-old. The suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

State authorities have stated that there are indications that the suspect had been radicalized online. However, they refrain from declaring the incident a terrorist attack at this stage.

The deceased had reportedly been enrolled in an anti-radicalization program for several years to address his "complex issues." Authorities express gratitude to members of the Muslim community who alerted police about their concerns regarding his behavior prior to the incident.

The matter is currently under investigation, and further updates will be provided as they become available.

Statement from Western Australia Premier Roger Cook:

"This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim and his family. I want to commend the police officers involved for their bravery and professionalism. They acted swiftly and decisively to protect the public."

Statement from Police Commissioner Col Blanch:

"We understand that this incident will be concerning to the community. We want to assure the public that we are doing everything we can to investigate the matter thoroughly and transparently.
