A worker in a meat processing industry has been convicted of stealing approximately 20 tonnes of meat from his employer over a period of three years. The Thessaloniki Three-Member Court of Appeal sentenced him to a two-year suspended prison term for the theft, which amounted to over EUR 80,000 in damages.

According to the employer's testimony, the worker stole around 150kg of filleted meat per week, totalling about 600kg per month. The thefts occurred between late 2016 and early 2020 and were discovered when the employer caught the worker red-handed at the business's entrance.

The 40-year-old worker admitted to part of the theft, stating that he intended to provide for his large family with the stolen goods, which he acknowledged were of poor quality.
