British Couple Found Dead in Thessaloniki Home After Nine Years of Residency

Greek police hires

The bodies of a British couple were discovered in their rented home in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The couple, aged 74 and 72, lived in the house for nine years.

The owner of the property found the bodies and promptly notified the police. Preliminary investigations revealed no indications of criminal activity. The bodies were in an advanced state of decay, and neighbours reported not seeing the couple for several days before the discovery.

The couple resided in a single-family home on Kairi Street, located in the Forty Churches area. A medical examiner conducted an initial examination, confirming the absence of signs of foul play. Reports indicate that the man and woman were found on different house floors.

While the man struggled with alcoholism, the woman reportedly faced significant psychological challenges. Neighbours noted that the couple often had disputes. Authorities ruled out the possibility of robbery after discovering an envelope labelled “rent” containing the October payment on the ground floor.

An autopsy, along with histological and toxicological tests, is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
