One of the world's most iconic symbols of western civilisation will undergo further rescue interventions as part of a long standing programme of restoration and maintenance.
On Wednesday Greek archaeological authorities announced the approval of new restoration work for the western pediment of the Parthenon.
The new work, announced by the Central Archaeological Council (KAS) involves the restoration of the upright marble slabs and background wall of the drum which form part of Parthenon’s western pediment and includes also rescue interventions aimed at dealing with the problems found by restorers, mainly cracks formed by various causes.
