Tourism Season 2017 for Greece has begun and already helped increase employment with over 92,000 new jobs, 50,000 of which are full-time as of the month of April, according to data from the labour ministry’s Ergani system, released this week.

Tourism numbers are expected to hit an all-time high this year with more than 30 million visitors predicted to make their way to Greece in 2017.

“It is of vital importance that 54.9 percent of the new jobs created in April concern full-time employment,” said Alternate Labor Minister Rania Antonopoulou in an interview with Greek media, also stating that the improvement is due to positive forecasts for incoming tourism and the extension of the tourism season.

Of the total recruitments in April, 123,101 or 54.9 percent were for full-time positions, 74,265 or 33.13 percent were for part-time employment and 26,815 or 11.96 percent were for rotation jobs.

Ergani data also found that more women were hired at 47,389 new jobs compared to 44,743 for men with the main age group being between 30 and 44.

The hospitality sector employed the most workers, followed by Greece’s Food & Beverage services, retail industry and travel agencies. The greatest demand is for waiters and bartenders, chefs at both hotels and restaurants, hotel chambermaids, receptionists and doormen.
