Greece’s 19-year-old Antonios Merlos and Mexico’s Roberto Vilches won a joint gold medal after they both cleared 2.23m in the final of the men’s high jump of the IAFF World U20 Championship, in Tampere, Finland.

Two gold medals were awarded in the men’s high jump after both athletes cleared 2.23 meters on their first attempts.

The IAAF reported that a jump-off was an option but the two protagonists warmly embraced and agreed to split the prize.

Greece was expected to contend for the men’s hammer title but their first gold medal at the IAAF World U20 Championships Tampere 2018 came instead in the high jump.
