Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for an EU strategy to restore the smooth running of markets, as well as a coherent framework for normalising transport and tourism, during his call to Council President Charles Michel.

The Prime Minister called Michel ahead of the EU Summit Meeting’s conference on Thursday and discussed among other things the EU’s ongoing response to the economic implications of the coronavirus pandemic, via new financial instruments and joint interventions that will ensure cohesion and solidarity among member states.

Mitsotakis also discussed the escalating Turkish provocations in the Aegean and East Mediterranean.

With the Greek economy so heavily reliant on agriculture and tourism, Mitsotakis is well aware of the implications to the economy which is expected to contract by 8 per cent with unemployment to rise sharply.
