Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented the landscape plans for the coastal front of Attica, at an event in Glyfada on Thursday.
The project which concerns the entire coastal front from Piraeus to Sounio (what is known as the Athens Riviera), will see the creation of a recreational path for pedestrians and bicycle riders alike.
On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, Mitsotakis stressed the importance of “enabling our fellow citizens to use the medium that is by definition the most environmentally friendly.”
He said he picked this day significantly to assure everyone “that the quality of life of citizens in a country with this wonderful weather, has great importance for the general prosperity of society.”
The PM said the government placed great importance on large-scale projects of urban renewal, and cited the examples of the Olympic Stadium facilities (OAKA) and the former royal grounds of Tatoi.
The project will be completed in phases.
“Let us do what other countries have done,” he said, adding that “we are now called upon to deal with the situation in a radical, holistic way.”
