A Greek fisherman who had gone missing for five days has reportedly been found and rescued by local fisherman after being swept away by strong currents in Halkidiki.
As of Wednesday, September 1, the 62 year old amateur fisherman who had gone fishing with his small, plastic inflatable in the Sahara sea area of Nea Kallikratia, Thermaikos, had been reported missingĀ after failing to return to shore.
Immediately four port authorities were mobilized, from Thessaloniki, Nea Moudania, Nea Michaniona and Skala Katerinis, but failed to locate him.
Luckily, the same currents that probably swept him out at sea for five days pushed out to the beach of Velika in the Municipality of Agia where he was spotted by local fishermen and residents who then took him ashore.
Exhausted by the five day battle with the waves with just one oar, he was transported by EKAB ambulance to Agia Health Centre for examinations.
