A 101-year-old elderly yiayia (grandmother) in Volos emerged victorious from her battle with the coronavirus.

According to the website Taxydromos, the grandmother was diagnosed positive and had to be hospitalised at the Achillopouleio Hospital of Volos.

On Monday, the doctors decided that the grandmother could be discharged, which she was.

The elderly woman recovered from the virus and was transferred to a Rehabilitation Centre, which is contracted to the Ministry of Health, in order to provide assistance to patients recovering.

What saved the old woman's life was the fact that she had been vaccinated and a few days after being admitted she was discharged.

“All those vaccinated, even if they need hospitalisation, will have a mild symptoms," said the doctors, and in the case of the elderly woman, their scientific assessment was confirmed.

In Achillopouleio, a total of seven patients with the virus are being treated, of which one person is intubated in the ICU and the rest in ordinary beds.

The average age of the patients is from 80 to 90 years.
