Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni visits New York MET over collaboration with Greek museums

Greek Culture and Sports Minister Lina Mendoni paid a visit with ministry officials to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) in New York and met with Greek and Roman Art Curator Seán Hemingway.

They discussed the next steps in implementing the Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) between the ministry, the Met, and the Museum of Cycladic Art, as well as expanding collaboration through exhibits with Greek museums, a ministry statement said.

The MoC foresees actions such scholarships to Greek researchers, the setup of a digital corpus of data, a symposium on checking the authenticity of artworks, and a collaboration on an excavation in a prehistoric site at the Cycladic Islands, under the directorship of the Cyclades Ephorate.

At a visit to the Center for Hellenic Studies 'Paideia' of the University of Connecticut (UConn), Mendoni was bestowed with the title of Benefactor as a recognition of her long-standing and consistent support of educational activities at Paideia, and of efforts to set up the museum on ancient Sparta on the college campus.

Attending the event were Greek Ambassador to Washington Alexandra Papadopoulou, Greek Consul in New York Dimitris Papageorgiou, UConn leaders, congresspeople of Greek descent, heads of Greek organizations, as well as professors and students at the state college.
