Victor Vernicos, who represented Greece at Eurovision 2023, was diagnosed positive for coronavirus.

The singer returned on Monday from Liverpool and announced the news with a post on his personal Instagram account.

A few days after the Eurovision, Jenny Melita, a contest commentator with Maria Kozakou, tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool ended with Sweden as the winner, while Greece, represented by Victor Vernicos, was eliminated in the second semi-final.

The 16-year-old singer, who competed with the song “What They Say”, returned to Athens and made some statements to the journalists who were waiting for him at the airport.

During the interview, the people who were next to Victor Vernico tried to answer as well, trying not to embarrass the young man.

In the video, a man can be heard shouting “Cut, Cut”, asking the cameras to stop recording when the singer is asked if he ran away after his performance in the semi-final.

The same man can be heard saying in exasperation that no one escaped.

“For sure we didn’t achieve our goal which was to go to the final, but sometimes other things are more important. I was a little sad that we didn’t get through, but not for long.

“The Eurovision experience was perfect, I learned many things, met many artists. What negative comments? I haven’t read anything, I don’t know the people who write them,” Vernicos initially said in footage shown by the “MEGA Good Morning” show.

Then the young singer said: “The 4points given by the Greek committee to Cyprus has nothing to do with me. I don’t relate to that at all. I gave it my all on stage, I was a little nervous at first, then I was fine. I gave it my all, but it wasn’t my moment. I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ll never say never on whether I would go to Eurovision again.”
