Andreas Loverdos announces his departure from PASOK with his announcement and his resignation from all the bodies of the Movement.

His announcement: "As of today, I am resigning from all PASOK-KINAL bodies, without exception, in which I participate. I am also resigning as a member of the party.

"The reasons for my resignation are purely political and I set them out in a highly confidential letter today to the President of the Movement.

"I wish the President, the executives and the thousands of members of PASOK-KINAL good success in their struggle and efforts. PS: For the members, executives and voters of PASOK who loved me and I loved: this decision of mine is for the good and above all it is crystal clear."

Meanwhile, the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance will meet at the beginning of next week, following the completion of the three-day process of policy statements in the Parliament, and in view of the central committee of the party which is set for July 15-16.

The list of candidates for the position of party leader will be submitted to the central committee.

At the same time, re-elected Parliament President Konstantinos Tasoulas has agreed to change the seating arrangements in the House after SYRIZA protested the decision to put the lawmakers of the far-right Spartiates (Spartans) between those of the leftist main opposition.

SYRIZA said Tasoulas pledged he will “proceed with every action to solve the issue that has been created.”

“We consider it unacceptable and unthinkable that it was decided to divide the seats of the main opposition so that there is no continuity in the seating of the SYRIZA deputies, which is unprecedented in parliamentary history,” SYRIZA’s parliamentary group president, Sokratis Famellos wrote to Tasoulas.

“We also consider it unacceptable the Spartiates were chosen to sit in the seats at the left in the plenary hall, something inconsistent with the history of the Parliament and parliaments in general, but also with the parliamentary rules,” he added.
