Mouros, Amorgos' most beautiful beach

Mouros beach, Amorgos

Amorgos is known as the island of the "Infinite Blue": the French film of the same name by Luc Besson gave the island great popularity and spread its fame to the ends of the world. The "endless blue" of the island also stands out in the eyes of its visitors: the landscapes take your breath away with their beauty.

Amorgos's beaches have excellent waters, which is a reason to visit this island. In such a competitive environment, we distinguish the waters in Mouros. Calm, crystal clear, with incredible clarity. Those who love swimming will rightfully feel that they are in paradise for them.

After parking or getting off the bus, you will cross a downhill path that will take 5-10 minutes to get to Mouros. The descent presents no particular difficulty. Most of it has steps. Of course, the return climb is considerably more tiring.

The small beach combines gravel, pebbles, and sand, all dark in colour, surrounded by impressive rocks. On its right side, there are sea caves. If you trust your swimming skills to get there, swimming in their truly blue-green waters is necessary to stay in Amorgos. But even if you visit on the main beach, you will have a fantastic seabed at your disposal, while the rocks surrounding you give you an incredible feeling.

The best time to go to Mouros is early in the morning when the crowds and heat are not too much, and you will have the opportunity to see the colours of the caves at their best.

Since the return climb may seem tiring, you will have another "excuse" to extend your stay in Muro. The tavern and cafe bar above the beach will offer you everything you need in good quality and affordable prices.

But the food and drink are simply the occasions to enjoy the fantastic view from above: the beach of Mouros, the Aegean, and the rocky shores of Amorgos. The "cliché" about an island of the "endless blue" has never been more accurate.

Having said all these good things about this particular beach, due to its small size, especially during the high season, you will probably be quite cramped and even want to set up an umbrella and not be able to. You should undoubtedly have water with you but nothing else because the ascent will be more challenging than the descent.

All this makes Mouros less an ideal choice for families or for one to visit several times during his stay in Amorgos. It is worth swimming in its waters at least once. Suppose this happens on a day that is not too windy and is outside the tourist high season; even better. At this point, the waters and the landscape will become a reference point in summer memories.

How to get there

Mouros is 15 kilometres from Chora tis Amorgos, on the island's southwest side. You will get there by car, motorcycle or bus, then walk down the path above.

Tips for holidays in Amorgos

The means of transport is considered necessary not only for practical reasons. Especially those who ride a motorcycle will love the routes they will take while enjoying the landscapes.

Amorgos is truly an island that will be loved by those who love photography, thanks to its unique geographical features. Please make sure you always have your camera or mobile phone with you.

Chora, Amorgos

Chora and the island in general in August are "in the crosshairs" of powerful winds. Bringing at least one long-sleeved shirt with you is a good idea.

It is worth visiting the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa. A fantastic building built on the edge of a cliff at an altitude of 300 meters has stood in place since 1088. You will admire the architecture, the valuable relics and images and of course you will have (here too) a fantastic view.
