According to recent data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), Greek museums and archaeological sites experienced a record-breaking revenue of 23.6 million euros during the January-April 2023 period. This figure surpasses the revenue generated during the same period in 2019 by a significant 38 percent.

Moreover, there was an increase in the number of visitors with tickets to museums and archaeological sites during this period, with nearly 200,000 more people compared to the same period in 2019.

The Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis site achieved their highest visitor numbers ever during this four-month period, surpassing 2019 figures by 2 percent and 7 percent, respectively.

Furthermore, the ancient Lindos site and the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights museum on Rhodes experienced substantial growth in visitor numbers compared to 2019, with a remarkable increase of 75 percent and 85 percent, respectively.

Other notable Greek archaeological sites and museums that exceeded their 2019 visitor numbers during this period include Delphi, Mystras, the Sanctuary of Asclepios in Epidaurus, Sounio, and Mycenae.

In total, 3.7 million individuals visited Greek sites and museums between January and April of this year, signifying a substantial increase of 63.1 percent compared to 2022. However, despite this growth, the numbers still fall short of the 2019 figures by 6 percent.
