Athens Airport Experiences Record-Breaking Passenger Traffic in September

Passenger traffic at Athens airport surged in September, surpassing 3 million travelers, according to a report released by Athens International Airport on Friday.

In September, passenger traffic reached a total of 3,006,870, marking a 16.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022 and an 11.8% increase compared to September 2019.

Both domestic and international traffic experienced growth, with domestic traffic exceeding 2022 levels by 14.6% and international traffic by 17.2%. When compared to September 2019, domestic traffic saw a 16.3% increase, while international traffic experienced a 9.9% increase.

Domestic passenger traffic accounted for 943,924 individuals, while international traffic stood at 2,063,746 passengers.

In the period from January to September, the total number of passengers reached 21.68 million, marking a 25.7% increase from the same period in the previous year and an 8.6% increase from 2019. Domestic and international passenger traffic saw growth of 20.3% and 28.3% compared to 2022, respectively, and 11.3% and 7.3% compared to 2019, respectively.

Based on these figures, it is anticipated that 2023 will be a record-breaking year for Athens airport, with passenger traffic expected to exceed 26 million.

During the January-September period, the total number of flights stood at 186,174, representing a 12.9% increase from 2022 and a 5.1% increase from 2019.
