Police officer fatally stabbed in altercation at bar in Thessaloniki

In the early hours of Thursday, a police officer from the Hellenic Police (ELAS) was killed during a dispute at a bar in Thessaloniki, a northern port city in Greece.

The police officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was stabbed with a knife after reprimanding another customer for their disruptive behavior. The individual believed to be responsible for the stabbing is a 44-year-old Norwegian national who has been taken into custody for further investigation. It is reported that the suspect was engaged in an argument with a friend of the police officer, and when the officer intervened to defuse the situation, the suspect responded by pulling out a knife and fatally stabbing the officer twice in the stomach and back. The altercation occurred at a bar located near the police station on Katsimidi Street in downtown Thessaloniki between 4 and 5 a.m.
