The trial of Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara town in Albania, has once again been postponed. Originally scheduled for January 25, the hearing has faced several delays.

Beleri, who belongs to the Greek ethnic group, was arrested just two days before the mayoral elections on May 14, 2023. Despite being behind bars, he emerged as the winner of the elections.

Currently, Beleri has been incarcerated for more than 8 months, with the charge of “buying votes” hanging over him. However, his legal team has definitively proven this accusation to be false, highlighting the fact that he is being unjustly held as a political prisoner.

Furthermore, Beleri’s requests to take office as the rightful mayor have been disregarded, with no response from the authorities.
