Recent speculations in the Greek media suggest that the former Costa cruise ship, Costa Magica, could be the first vessel to start operations for SeaJets. The ship, renamed Mykonos Magic, might set sail under SeaJets Cruises in June, kicking off the restart for three former Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean ships acquired by the company during the pandemic.
After Cruise Industry News reported that SeaJets could be launching its cruise brand, rumors in Piraeus suggest that SeaJets has already hired a former Costa Cruises executive and a former CEO of another European cruise company.
During the pandemic, the Greek shipowner Marios Iliopoulos, owner of the largest high-speed passenger ferry company in Greece, SeaJets, gradually acquired ten cruise ships. At that time, various scenarios circulated, one of which suggested that Mr. Iliopoulos would expand into the cruise sector. Meanwhile, six of these cruise ships were gradually sold, some for scrap and to other cruise lines, yielding substantial profits.
Currently, SeaJets owns four cruise ships: Aegean Majesty (formerly ms Veendam), Mykonos Magic (formerly Costa Magica), Majesty of Oceans (formerly Majesty of the Seas), and Queen of Oceans (formerly P&O Oceana), which could gradually restart for the new cruise line.
According to information in Piraeus, the aim is for the new company to initially start with one of the four cruise ships owned by the boss of SeaJets, the Mykonos Magic, formerly Costa Magica. Mykonos Magic's goal is to offer three and four-day cruises in the Aegean with a different product from the competition.
