Chalkolimionas beach andros

Andros is an enchanting island in the Aegean Sea and attracts visitors because of its breathtaking landscapes, unspoiled beaches, and rich cultural history.

How to get to this Cycladic paradise

By Ferry:

Andros is situated relatively close to Athens. Therefore, it is easily (and only) accessible by ferry from the mainland from the port of Rafina.

Ferries to Andros depart from Rafina port, around 30 kilometres east of Athens.

The ferry journey typically lasts about 2 hours, and there are several daily departures, with increased frequency during the summer months.

Travellers can opt for traditional ferries, various seating options and on-board amenities, or high-speed catamarans, which provide a quicker voyage but may be pricier.

Visitors can drive or use public transport to reach Rafina port from Athens. Driving takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic conditions.

The KTEL bus from Athens to Rafina is available for those who prefer public transport. Buses operate regularly throughout the day, and tickets can be purchased directly from the driver or at the KTEL ticket counter.

By Air:

While Andros doesn’t have its own airport, travellers can fly to nearby Mykonos or Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) and then board a ferry to Andros. Mykonos is closer to Andros, with the ferry ride from Mykonos to Andros taking about 2 to 3 hours.

However, Athens International Airport offers a more extensive range of flight connections, making it a more convenient option for international travellers.

How to move around

Andros

Upon arrival in Andros, visitors will disembark at Gavrio Port, the island’s main harbour. From Gavrio, travellers can rent a car, hire a taxi, or use the local KTEL bus service to reach their final destination on the island.

Buses

The public bus service connects Gavrio with other towns and villages on Andros, such as Batsi, Andros Town (Chora), and Ormos Korthiou. Conveniently, buses are timed to coordinate with the comings and goings of the ferries.

But bus schedules may change depending on the season, so verifying the timetable beforehand is crucial.
