The "Shadows of the Aegean" of the Special Warfare Command of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA) were in the Highlands of Scotland to conduct joint training with British commandos.

The "Shadows of the Aegean", the elite Special Forces who report directly to GEETHA, were invited by the British to conduct joint training exercises in the iconic Highlands of Scotland with the 2nd Royal Gurkha Rifles Battalion and the 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team.

Joint training took place for three weeks, from Thursday, February 15 to Monday, March 4, 2024. The British themselves requested the bilateral joint training named “HIGHLAND KHUKRI – 24”.

The training, a LIVEX/FTX (Live Exercise/Field Training Exercise) type exercise, focused on planning and conducting operations in a mountainous environment.

Throughout its duration, participants had the opportunity to practice complex operational scenarios, which enhanced cooperation, increased combat capability, and improved interoperability.

According to Enikos, the British decided to transform the light infantry battalions into commando battalions, following the standards of the American "Rangers" a year ago. This means upgrading their training and equipment.
