Migrant Boat Sinks Off Turkey, At Least 16 Dead, Including Children

At least 16 migrants, including four children, drowned after a rubber boat sank off Turkey's northwestern province of Çanakkale (Dardanelles), according to state-run Anadolu Agency.

A search and rescue operation involving coast guard vessels, helicopters, navy personnel, the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD) and the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) is ongoing. The number of migrants on board the inflatable dinghy remains unclear.

Reports on the death toll vary, with public broadcaster TRT reporting 20 recovered bodies, while initial reports from authorities suggested eight fatalities.
