Patras Police Make 88 Arrests During Carnival Weekend Crackdown

Patras Police arrested 88 people during the last weekend of Carnival (March 16-17) in a major operation aimed at curbing crime. The focus of the operation was on preventing theft, drug trafficking, and illegal trade.

Over the course of the weekend, officers conducted checks on 1,848 individuals. A total of 213 people were brought into police stations for further investigation, with 88 ultimately facing arrest.

The breakdown of the arrests reveals a focus on narcotics and unlicenced trade. 51 people were arrested for drug-related offenses, while 23 were apprehended for selling goods without a permit. Additionally, 11 arrests were made for violations of weapons and fireworks laws, with one person arrested for theft and two for traffic violations.

Law enforcement officials have indicated that the increased police presence will continue throughout today, with traffic police maintaining a strong presence on the road network to ensure the safe departure of Carnival attendees.
