Australian Embassy in Greece Hosts Event for Women of the World Athens Festival

On Friday 6th April, the Australian Embassy and Ambassador of Australia, HE Ms Alison Duncan, and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, HE Mr Matthew Lodge, hosted an inspiring event to to kick off the Women of the World festival, which was held in Athens from 6th to 8th April.

Amongst the esteemed guests at the event, was Jude Kelly CBE, Founder and Director of WOW – Women of the World Foundation and WOW – Women of the World Festival.

Suzie Miller, Australian-British author of 'Prima Facie', was also in attendance. 'Prima Facie' is a stunning, award-winning dramatic play and novel about sexual assault, which premiered in Australia in 2019 and has since moved to London's West End, performed by BAFTA Award winner Jodie Comer, and then on to Broadway.

This is the second year Athens has hosted WOW – Women of the World Festival, which is the largest event in the world celebrating women, girls and non-binary people and striving for a gender equal world.

WOW Festival Athens was presented by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in collaboration with the British Council, hosting a varied programme of events, including speeches by invited activists from Greece and abroad; discussions on key issues that concern women, femininities and non-binary people around the world, from gender violence to gender stereotypes in the workplace and from reproductive rights to mental health; empowerment workshops; inspiring stage readings and film screenings; concerts of well-known artists; mentoring sessions, and much more.
