Greece’s economy is expected to expand by 2.3% in 2023, exceeding the average growth rate in the eurozone, according to Greek central bank chief Yannis Stournaras.

However, this projection falls short of the government’s estimate of 2.9% growth. Stournaras pointed to private consumption and investment as key drivers of growth, but increased investments may lead to higher imports. Economic headwinds such as slowing growth in Europe and global geopolitical issues could impact Greece’s output. Despite outperforming other eurozone nations since emerging from its financial crisis in 2018, Greece’s economy grew a modest 2% in 2022 due to lower investments and the financial burden of floods.
