As a mark of reverence, Greek Military General Dimitrios Choupis laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in Delhi today, paying homage to the fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their nation. He also took a moment to sign the visitors' book at the memorial, honouring their memory and sacrifice.

Welcoming General Choupis to Delhi, Greek Ambassador to India Aliki Koutsomitopoulou expressed her pleasure at his visit. In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Greek Embassy in India highlighted Ambassador Koutsomitopoulou's delight in hosting General Choupis, marking the beginning of his official engagements in India.

The visit comes in the wake of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' recent two-day State visit to India in February, accompanied by his wife Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis. During his visit, Prime Minister Mitsotakis engaged in discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on enhancing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the areas of shipping, connectivity, and defence.

Following their meeting, PM Modi took to X to express the productive nature of their discussions, emphasising the potential for collaboration in various sectors including technology, pharmaceuticals, and innovation.

Notably, General Choupis' visit marks the first bilateral visit at the Head of State or Head of Government level from Greece to India in 15 years, underscoring the significance of the burgeoning relationship between the two nations. The elevation of bilateral ties to a 'Strategic Partnership' during PM Modi's visit to Greece in August 2023 further solidifies the commitment to strengthen cooperation across diverse domains.
