Google has announced the launch of Google News Showcase in Greece, a new initiative designed to support and connect news publishers with audiences.

Multiple prominent media organizations in Greece, including 24 MEDIA, AtticaMedia Group, DPG Digital Media Group, iefimerida, Kathimerini, Liquid Media, Newsit, Proto Thema, and The Huffington Post Greece, have joined the program.

Enhanced News Experience

News Showcase panels from participating publishers will be integrated into Google News on various platforms, including Android, iOS, and the web. These panels provide readers with a curated and engaging experience, featuring highlights from the newsrooms and direct links to full articles on the publishers' websites.

This feature allows publishers to showcase their content more effectively, deepening their connections with readers and providing them with greater control over their presentation.

Collaboration with Journalists

The launch of News Showcase in Greece is the latest chapter in Google's ongoing partnership with publishers and journalists. Through the Google News Initiative, the company has supported local newsrooms and trained news professionals in digital skills.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Google also provided support to Greek newsrooms through the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund.

"We're proud of our commitment to supporting journalism and promoting a healthy and diverse news industry in Greece," said a Google spokesperson. "With products like News Showcase, our partnerships, and programs, we aim to empower publishers and ensure access to reliable news for our users."
