A prominent Christian leader has been allegedly stabbed multiple times in Sydney’s west.
The incident happened on Monday night just after 7 pm at Wakeley’s Christ The Good Shepherd Church, where Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was saying Mass.
Bishop Emmanuel can be seen speaking to the congregation before a man walks up to him and allegedly stabs him a number of times.
The young man dressed in all black can be seen approaching the altar where Bishop Emmanuel was standing before allegedly stabbing his face and body before people tried to stop him.
Parishioners could hear horrified screams before a live feed of the Mass, which was being shown on YouTube, was immediately cut off.

Bishop Emmanuel has since gained a large following both on social media, and specially TikTok, and across the country for his sermons.

A NSW police spokesperson confirmed an incident was in progress in Wakeley but that it was too early to provide more information.

Police remain at the scene of an alleged stabbing at a church in Wakeley in Sydney’s southwest.
About 7.10pm tonight (Monday 15 April 2024) police were called to Welcome Street, Wakeley, following reports a number of people were stabbed.
Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command, supported by multiple police resources from a number of commands and specialist units attended.
A male was arrested and remains in police custody.
The injured individuals suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being conveyed to hospital.
A large police response is underway and the public is urged to avoid the area.
