Second Disappearance Rocks Greek Islands

Mouros beach, Amorgos

Authorities were alerted to a new disappearance of a foreigner, this time on the island of Amorgos.

Just hours after the tragic discovery of a missing British journalist on Symi, a 59-year-old retired American police officer, born in France but a US citizen, went missing on Amorgos.

According to information obtained by iefimerida, a Greek friend of 59-year-old Calibet A. Eric contacted the Amorgos police station at 4:56 PM to report him missing.

What the missing person's friend reported

The friend, identified as S.S., informed authorities that he and the retired officer were vacationing together on the island. He stated that the 59-year-old had embarked on a solo hike from Aegiali at 7:05 AM, following a marked trail to Katapola. An information sign indicated an estimated travel time of 4 hours and 5 minutes.

He further explained to the police:

"I realized at 3:20 PM that my friend had not arrived in Katapola. I became worried and started calling him repeatedly, but I couldn't reach him. He had two phones with him, one with a French number and the other with an American number."

The last text message sent to his sister

Police sources indicate that the missing man's last known communication was a text message sent to his sister at 7:20 AM, just 15 minutes after he began his hike. The message reportedly included a photograph of the trail sign.

Police, firefighters, and volunteer rescue teams are actively searching for the 59-year-old, but so far, their efforts have yielded no trace of him.

Police officers from the Naxos department have requested assistance from the mobile phone company to locate the 59-year-old's mobile phone signal.

To bolster and coordinate the investigation, the director of the Cyclades Police Directorate has ordered a team of police officers, led by an officer, to arrive in Amorgos tomorrow, Wednesday (July 12th).
