Zampanó Athens' best bistro & brunch spot

Zampano Athens

Zampanó is a cool bistro, wine bar, and brunch cafe located on the ground floor of a neoclassical building in Athens’ Theatre District of Psirri. It opened in 2015, and its sophisticated and chilled vibe has locals and visitors flocking through its doors every day of the week.

The welcoming Greek bistro & wine bar, Zampanó, on Sarri Street in Athens’ Psirri theatre district, is a destination where originality, passion and imagination coexist to magnificent effect, offering guests a hospitable experience in the middle of the big city. The bistro is the 6-month-old brainchild of business partners Dimosthenis Misentzis and Epaminondas Skorpideas, who, in July of 2012, had already enriched the arty neighbourhood by establishing the innovative City Circus Hostel next door.

Since then, City Circus has successfully hosted world travellers seeking to experience a true taste of the ancient city from under the shadow of its most iconic landmark, the Acropolis. Now, the owners are completing their vision by offering… truly local flavours!

The stunningly renovated building is actually part of the only boutique hostel in Athens- City Circus -and the venue’s stylish fit-out features rustic yet vibrant décor- giving it a real edge and eclectic touch. The art-deco design includes Parisian furniture, a copper bar and contemporary lighting, which has been inspired by ‘Zampano’ (the hero from the Federico Fellini movie La Strada) and makes for a great place to brunch, lunch, dine or a casual catch up for drinks with friends.

The creative elements in the kitchen are always based on fresh, seasonal produce from all around the country, and some of the signature dishes on Zampanó’s gourmet menu include Grilled Zucchini with Arugula, Greek orzo “Kritharoto” with slow-cooked beef and grated goat cheese, “Spetsofai” rolls with yogurt-mint sauce and Fava bean purée from Santorini with grilled sardines. And if you wish to satisfy a sweet tooth, you can’t go past the Lemon Pie with Mastiha Ice Cream or Panna Cotta made with sheep’s yoghurt.

If you are in the mood for drinks, ask the bartender for a Bloody Mary or Mai Tai. Otherwise, have a quick squiz through their extensive wine list, which includes some amazing Greek reds and whites served by the glass.
