Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis convened a meeting at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection yesterday to address the recent wildfire in Attica and to discuss state-supported restoration initiatives for the affected regions.

Mitsotakis emphasised the government’s commitment to continual improvement in managing such crises, despite increasingly challenging conditions. He commended the Civil Protection forces for their significant efforts and noted the enhanced coordination among agencies and services as a notable achievement. “We will not allow the significant progress made this year in Civil Protection to be dismantled,” Mitsotakis declared.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the operational handling of aerial resources, stating that their allocation is now overseen by experts with specific operational criteria. He highlighted that less than 10% of the burned area consists of forested land, with initial assessments indicating that fewer than 100 buildings were damaged, most of which were not residential.

The meeting also focused on the restoration of affected areas, including immediate state aid for victims, support for municipalities, and compensation for damaged plant and animal resources. The discussion involved ministers, local government officials, and representatives from the forces engaged in managing and extinguishing the fire.
