Greek Film "Φόνισσα" ("Murderess") Selected as 2025 Oscar Nominee

Eva Nathena's film "Φόνισσα" has been chosen as Greece's official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category.

The announcement was made by Deputy Minister of Culture, Jason Fotilas, following a meeting of the newly formed selection committee.

"Φόνισσα", or "Murderess" in English, became the sole candidate after other Greek films withdrew from the nomination process, citing objections over the Ministry of Culture’s handling of the Oscars selection.

Despite the controversy, the committee unanimously approved "Φόνισσα" as Greece’s representative for the prestigious awards.

The Deputy Minister confirmed the decision in an official statement, noting that the selection committee convened on September 10, 2024, to finalise the nomination.
