CCTV Footage Reveals Gang Burglarising Ministries and Law Offices in Athens

Exclusive footage obtained by CNN Greece reveals a gang in action, caught by security cameras during a series of burglaries targeting ministries and law offices in central Athens.

The Athens Security Sub-Directorate has identified four suspects believed to be responsible for breaking into various business premises, including the IT department of the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of National Economy and Finance. The gang stole over 30 computers and other equipment during their operations.

One of the incidents, recorded by security cameras at the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, occurred at 4:00 AM on September 17, 2024. The footage shows the perpetrators breaking a balcony door on the fifth floor of the Ministry of Labor. From there, they reached the seventh floor, where the financial management directorate is located, and stole 30 laptops from a locked room.

In another instance, video evidence captured the suspects entering the fifth floor of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance on Korai Street. They were seen removing two computer monitors from an unlocked office.

Despite their efforts to conceal their identities, police managed to identify the suspects through clothing worn during the burglaries. Additionally, investigators collected biological material and fingerprints from the crime scenes.

Authorities report that the perpetrators have extensive criminal records, with multiple arrests in the past for theft, conspiracy, and handling stolen goods. Efforts to apprehend the gang and recover the stolen items are ongoing.
