Athens, Greece – A 25-year-old British man tragically died on Saturday afternoon while diving off the coast of Vouliagmeni, south of Athens. Greek authorities have arrested the diving instructor and his assistant in connection with the incident.
The man reportedly lost consciousness during a dive with a private company. According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, he was diving with instructors when the incident occurred. Fellow divers and instructors retrieved him from the water and he was rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
The Port Authority, leading the preliminary investigation, arrested the 46-year-old diving instructor and his 37-year-old assistant. They are being held on suspicion of violating Article 302 of the Greek Criminal Code, though the specific nature of the alleged violation has not yet been released.
