Vefa Alexiadou, a beloved Greek culinary figure, passed away at the age of 91. She had been hospitalized at Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki due to serious health issues. Alexiadou, often referred to as Greece's "national chef," resided in Halkidiki, in a home she described as her last remaining asset.

About Vefa Alexiadou:
Born in Volos on March 13, 1933, Alexiadou was married to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Professor Konstantinos Alexiadis. She endured the heartbreaking loss of both her daughters: Alexia, who died of cardiac arrest on October 29, 2014, and Angela, who passed away on February 10, 2015.
A chemist by training, Alexiadou studied at Aristotle University and furthered her education at Berkeley University in the US, specializing in food hygiene, table decoration, and modern culinary arts. Her cookbooks, translated into multiple languages, earned international recognition, including awards at the International Cookbook Fair in Perigueux, France, in 1998 and 2000. In 2000, she received the prestigious "Best Culinary Business Professional" award at the same fair.
Alexiadou's television career began on ANT1's "Proinos Kafes" (Morning Coffee), where she cooked alongside various hosts, including Roula Koromila, Popi Chatzidemetriou, and Eleni Menegaki. She revealed that her work on the show was unpaid, as her agreement with the network involved promoting her cookbooks.
In 2003, she hosted "Ta Mystika Tis Vefas" (Vefa's Secrets) on Mega Channel, and in 2009, "Stin Kouzina me ti Vefa" (In the Kitchen with Vefa) on Alter Channel. She was a candidate for LAOS in the 2024 European Parliament elections.
