A rescue operation is underway involving the fire department, the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK), and the Special Forest Operations Unit (EMODE) to free nine people trapped in a mountainous forested area on the border of the Ioannina and Grevena regions.
Initial reports indicate that nine tourists in five vehicles attempted to cross the Valia Calda National Park to reach Vovousa in Eastern Zagori from Milia Metsovou. However, a blizzard trapped them, and they called the emergency number 112 for assistance shortly before 10:00 PM on Sunday.
