ATHENS – As preparations for New Year’s Eve celebrations ramp up globally, Athens has taken a unique approach: silent fireworks. In a move aimed at protecting the city’s animal population, the Municipality has opted for quieter pyrotechnics for its annual celebration in Syntagma Square.
The event, titled “Rooftop of Time” and featuring popular Greek artist Phoebus Delivorias, will proceed as planned. Mayor Haris Doukas will join the artists on stage for the countdown to 2025. This decision acknowledges the distress that loud fireworks can cause pets and wildlife.
