According to a court ruling in the case of Eleni Topaloudi’s murder in November 2018, one of the two perpetrators is ordered to pay 905,000 euros in compensation to the victim’s relatives.
The compensation is for the mental anguish caused by the brutal crime, which involved the gang rape and murder of a student in Pefki, Lindos, Rhodes. The Single-Member Court of First Instance in Rhodes issued the decision on January 15, 2025, awarding the compensation to Eleni’s family.
This decision marks a significant step in providing some form of justice for the Topaloudi family, who had sought damages through a civil lawsuit. The family’s case highlighted the violent nature of the crime, the perpetrators’ deceitful and methodical actions, and their efforts to conceal the truth. The lawsuit also pointed out that the perpetrators’ parents were responsible for failing to supervise their children.
The two men involved—one Albanian and one Greek—were both sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 years for the murder without any mitigating circumstances.
As per the court ruling, the Albanian-born perpetrator is required to pay the following amounts to Eleni Topaloudi’s family:
- 240,000 euros to her father, Ioannis Topaloudis
- 240,000 euros to her mother, Kyriaki Armoutidou
- 200,000 euros to her brother
- 100,000 euros to her grandmother
- 100,000 euros to the heirs of her grandfather
- 25,000 euros to each of her uncles
